Mariah and Michael Get Married
I’ve known Mariah and her family for several years. I met her when I was lucky enough to be asked to do her senior portraits. That day was one of the coldest that I have ever photographed anything, let alone a young lady wearing a dress on the shore of a lake! When we did her bridal session this summer, it was one of the hottest days I’ve ever photographed anything! As we counted down the days to the wedding, we all knew we were in for some exceptional weather. Hurricane Matthew barreled up the east coast, and hit North Carolina much harder than anyone had anticipated. I didn’t know if I would even make it to the wedding, it was raining so hard. I managed to get there, and began working photographing everyone getting ready. We decided to do some portraits of the wedding party in the lobby of the hotel, and while that was happening a major realization was made: the wedding venue was flooding. It was just not safe for everyone to drive out there. So the decision was made to have the wedding and reception at the hotel. Michael and many of the wedding party and some guests loaded up to go get as much as they could from the venue to decorate the hotel. The wind howled, the rain poured down. When they came back, everyone jumped into high gear to unload and decorate. We were all soaked, and exhausted, but everyone worked together with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts. Eventually everything was prepared and the ceremony was held. The love between these two was so evident to everyone present. The love that their families have for them was also apparent. It was an incredibly challenging day as a photographer, and I have offered to do a private session with Michael and Mariah this spring. We just didn’t have the time or the light to do decent wedding portraits. I hope they will take me up on that. Despite the challenges, the photos convey the love and deep emotions felt on that day. I am so happy for these two. You can see the whole wedding HERE.
